Csikszentmihalyi, M. (1993). Flow: The Psychology of Optimal Experience.

While his name may be difficult to pronounce, his ideas are easier to understand. FLOW: you will know it when you experience it and it may point you to new directions.

Ebaugh, H. R. F. (1988). Becoming an EX: The Process of Role Exit.

Very interesting book written by an ex-nun. Ebaugh talks about the importance of exiting a role before entering a new role and the consequences of not taking the time to do so.

Buckingham, M. and P. D. Clifton, Donald O. (2001). Now, Discover Your Strengths.

Finally a book that suggest that it is more valuable to focus on your strengths rather than your weaknesses!

Levoy, G. (1998). Callings: Finding and Following an Authentic Life.

Interesting ideas for getting in touch with who you are and what you want from your life.

Palmer, P. (1999). Let Your Life Speak: Listening for the Voice of Vocation.

A reminder of the importance of paying attention and hearing what is being "said".

Making Transitions

 

Bridges, W. (1980). Transitions: Strategies for coping with the difficult, painful, and confusing times in your life.

A wonderful book that describes both a 3 step process for making transitions and offers strategies for getting through life transitions.

Ibarra, H. (2003). working identity: Unconventional Strategies for Reinventing Your Career.

Ibarra suggests that rather than thinking about changing your career, you should spend time experimenting÷trying on a new career to see if it feels right.

vanGennep, A. (1960). Rites of passage.

The works of many authors who write about transitions is grounded in the ideas originally put forth by van Gennep in this book. A classic in the field of change.

Whyte, David (2001). Crossing the Unknown Sea-Work as a Pilgrimage of Identity

This is an amazing book written by a poet. Whyte takes you on a journey of discovering the meaning of work. Highly recommended.
